Metrics
Can you measure if a society is becoming more prosperous? Over time, a community can become richer, smarter, happier, and healthier -- or its opposite. If you're growing a society, it is important to measure vital metrics to see the health of a society.
Most social networks monitor engagement by screen time. The problem is, this metric gives you no indication of user prosperity. It makes the network operators richer because they are able to sell more ads, but the more users are engaged in clickbait, the poorer and more depressed they become.
But let's suppose you instead tried to optimize four unique metrics:
- chess rankings (intelligence)
- code rankings (skill)
- job offers (economy)
- voxel game user ratio (youth demographic)
High scores in each field might provide an indirect measurement of a society's prosperity.
